A piece of history.
Block Gould was named after a charming and educational history teacher, Mr. Harry Gould. Harry was born on April 23, 1949, in Newport-on-Tay-Fife. After infamous teenage years, he made his family proud by earning a history teaching diploma. He began his teaching career at Wald Academy in Anstruther, Fife. Later, he continued his career at Bell Baxter High School. In 1979, he stayed at Munchenhof for the first time, where he was captivated by the hospitality of Marie-Rose Ghekiere, the then-owner. Langemark is situated in the midst of the rich wartime history of ’14-’18. Since then, Bell Baxter High School Battlefield Tours became an annual event where he introduced students to the Westhoek and its surroundings. Every year, he brought his students here, to us, for a week under his expert guidance, teaching them the value of our history until he retired in 2010, 31 years later. This charming former teacher became one of our best friends over the years.
